Bundle of Joy

img_2796yla_paint.jpg

We are on spring break this week and I thought I would have all this extra time to stamp, but life has gotten in the way as usual!  I am hoping to post more often after I get the hang of this blogging thing.  My tutorial that I posted last weekend took several hours to create and upload.  I am almost bald-headed from the frustration! LOL!  Thank you to those of you who have been so kind in helping me (you know who you are)!

Now on to stamping!  My cousin had a precious baby boy last week and I knew that I wanted to make a card using the new Bundle of Joy stamp set from Stampin’ Up!’s Spring Mini Catalog.  When I first purchased this set, I made a card that is almost identical to the one you see above, but with a few changes.  (You can see the original in my Splitcoast gallery.  Just click on the link to the right and it will take you right there.)  I stamped the giraffe first, masked it and then stamped the bear on watercolor paper with Black StazOn ink because it is completely waterproof and won’t bleed when water comes in contact with it.  The images were watercolored using an Aqua Painter and Reinkers (Close to Cocoa and So Saffron).  I watercolor in layers, starting from the edge of the image and pulling the color toward the center.  The darker “seams” on the bear and giraffe were created using markers.  Markers come in handy for accenting those small, hard-to-color areas.  I sponged the edges with Brocade Blue ink and attached it to a piece of Night of Navy.  I used the Paper Piercing Tool & Mat to place the Brocade Blue Brads (this ensures perfect, even placement every time).  I stamped the Brocade Blue piece in Brocade Blue ink with the Flannel Plaid background stamp.  To me, this stamp looks very boyish and at the same time perfect for a baby card.  I sponged Night of Navy ink on the edges of this panel and then used my sewing machine to stitch around the edge.  The So Saffron panel was stamped in So Saffron ink with the Linen background stamp and then sponged with More Mustard ink around the edges.  The So Saffron, Brocade Blue and watercolored panels were attached to one another and then I attached the Blue Gingham Ribbon, tying it in a little bow.  The sentiment piece was stamped in Black StazOn ink on watercolor paper, trimmed to fit the Pewter Hodgepodge Hardware and attached to the card (notice that I stamped a separate heart, colored it in So Saffron, cut it out and popped it up with a tiny piece of a Stampin’ Dimensional).  The final step was to attach this to the Night of Navy card base.
