Today on Memorial Day, I’ve been thinking about my grandparents who have since passed away, but were a tremendous influence in my life after my parents divorced when I was a teenager. My grandparents made sure that my mother, two brothers and I were always taken care of — that we had food and clothes and, most importantly, a godly heritage. I love them and miss them very much!

To create the striped, “flag” background, I embossed a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock with the Stripes embossing folder. I then cut eight strips of Whisper White cardstock measuring 3/16″ x 5-1/4″, sponged the edges with Crumb Cake ink and then attached them to the “valleys” of the embossed, striped piece. Then it was just a matter of die cutting this piece with the Ovals Collection Framelits Die that measures 3-1/8″ x 4″. All edges were sponged with Crumb Cake ink.

Welcome to the Control Freaks May 2013 blog tour! We’ve created projects using new items from the upcoming 2013-2014 Stampin’ Up! catalog. If you’re following the tour, you’ve just come from Barb Mullikin’s blog.

Here are my two projects!

PROJECT #1 – Graduation Thank You Card

Mosaic-Madness-Yvette-Ashe

My first project is a graduation thank you card. My son graduated from high school last week and his school colors are red, black and white. I wanted a design that would have a masculine feel to it and be easy to replicate. The new Mosaic Madness stamp set and coordinating Modern Mosaic Embossing Folder and Mosaic Punch all came in handy for this project.

Stamps: Mosaic Madness, Teeny Tiny Wishes, Lacy & Lovely

Paper: Whisper White, Real Red, Basic Black

Ink: Black StazOn, Real Red

Accessories: Modern Mosaic Folder, Big Shot, 2-1/2″ Circle Punch, Mosaic Punch, Basic Black 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon, Rhinestone, Stampin’ Dimensionals

PROJECT #2 – Graduation Open House 3×3 Thank You Notecards

Label-Love-Yvette-Ashe

My second project is a set of small 3×3 thank you notecards for those who attended my son’s open house. The “Thank U” stamp is from the Pennant Parade set and is punched with the 3/4″ Circle Punch.

My son just graduated from high school this week and I made some of those graduation caps made out of Rolo candies for his open house. I covered each Rolo candy with a three-inch piece of Stampin’ Up!’s Real Red 5/8″ Grosgrain Ribbon (retired). The tops of the caps consist of two layers — the base is punched with a 1-1/4″ Square Punch and the top is punched with a 1″ Square Punch. Each piece is attached with a Stampin’ Dimensional. The “tassel” was created with a 1/16″ x 1-1/2″ piece of Whisper White cardstock and secured to the top of the cap with Tombow Adhesive.

For a graduate whose school color is purple. This is a CASE of a card in the new SU! catalog (love, love, love it)! The samples in this catalog are outstanding!!! I die cut one long edge of the embossed panel with the Adorning Accents Edgelits die first and then embossed it with the Fancy Fan embossing folder. Vanilla Smooch Spritz was applied for added shimmer.
